Faith Crisis
Some years ago, and before I became a Latter Day Saint, I worked along side a young man who himself was LDS and was soon to graduate from Brigham Young University at Idaho. We had many discussions about life and living, people and society, government and integrity. I was impressed by his work ethic and his ability to communicate and felt comfortable in his company. Although our time of employment together ended, our friendship did not. He moved away and we visited several times and as I became convinced of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon, I relayed my experiences to him by phone, message and conversation.
Little did I know that while I was going through a conversion into the gospel he was experiencing just the opposite. He was going through a crisis of faith. Because of the pressures to "believe" he had a difficult time coming out in the open with his views and i still remember the first time I caught wind of it was through his facebook posting advertising his newly created faith crisis blog. Reading the blog I was astonished. How could he be struggling this way?
Through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, I was guided to intervene. I decided a school assignment would apply to his circumstance and offer the vehicle to be able to dig a little deeper and open up some dialogue between us. I was later prompted to invite him to my first temple ceremony. I can't imagine that I ultimately had anything to do with his return back to the church, but I do know that he is doing well and has returned back to regular attendance into the church. Our friendship is still intact and despite the lack of professionalism and my incomplete portrayal of his situation, he still cares.
